Transport Action BC would like to take this opportunity to say well done! to
- the Province of British Columbia, for
- publishing the Provincial Transit Plan in January 2008
- proposing a law to give transit buses the right of way when leaving stops and changing lanes
- reducing the unfair tax burden placed on railway lines and structures relative to roads
- the City of Vancouver, for
- extending the time for the bus lane on Georgia Street to 2-7 p.m.
- purchasing the right of way for a False Creek streetcar system, and committing to operating a service which will include a restored 1905-vintage interurban car.
- organising a series of transportation symposia through the month of January. These events have proved very popular and have brought public involvement to a vital public issue.
- continuing its commitment to traffic calming in the densely populated West End, by closing off car but not bicycle access to Jervis street from Robson street and from Davie street.
- declaring one lane of Granville street southbound through Marpole an HOV lane (rush hour only).
- approving restrictions on right turns to speed buses through the often congested two-lane block of Robson Street between Howe and Hornby.
Transport Action BC would like to recognize people organisations
who are acting to bring about a more sustainable transportation
system. If you have any suggestions for additions to the
"kudos" list, please email us.
